dc.description.abstract	Hyponatremia is a potential side-effect of antidepressants that was observed most frequently in connection with compounds acting on the serotonin system. Risk of hyponatremia was found to be higher in the elderly. Authors report a case of a 65-year old male patient who was treated with venlafaxine-mirtazapine combination for recurrent depression. Severe hyponatremia, requiring intensive care, emerged in connection with the treatment. The authors emphasize the importance of the regular checking of serum sodium levels during antidepressant treatment, especially in elderly patients.
